Tractor just won't go away

Neighbor has a 92 Ford 5030 4x4 with loader, he had some off and on issues with the 16x8 shuttle shift trans until three years ago when it completely quit pulling.
He brought it to me and after tearing it apart we found many of the parts where discontinued and it wasn't worth fixing.
I had a 8x8 shuttle shift trans from a 3930 that I went thru replacing a couple of bearings and correcting some mistakes from a previous repair. I then installed the trans on his tractor to get him going.
Last year he brought it back with the clutch slipping, the clutch had be done by someone else the year before I replaced the trans.
Come to find out these transmissions must use a diaphragm style pressure plate for throwout bearing clearance. Someone had installed a old finger style plate. So we put a new clutch in it and sent it home again.
Last month he brought it back again, this time over heating with a leaky radiator, The radiator had to be recored and I finally got it back yesterday. Today I installed the radiator and got the tractor back together only to find the key had been turned on running the battery flat.
After about 30 minutes with a battery charger and jumper cables we finally got it fired up, the owner was there and once it started he reve'd it up a couple of times (something I don't like to do on first start), when he idled it back down I was like what the he--, the engine was knocking, got my listening stick out and sure enough it's got a knock up high on #3 cylinder.
I swung the battery out and cracked the injector lines loose one at a time to see what change it might make, sure enough when I cracked #3 loose the knock stopped, when I tightened it back up the knock came back, I'm hoping it's a fuel knock from a failed injector and that I don't have to pull the head.
My neighbor was there with his haying partner and they were needing the tractor, his partners JD quit in the field yesterday and had to be hauled to the dealer leaving them 3 acres short of finishing the field, I loaned them my 6610 to finish cutting the field while I figured out what to do with his.
When we shut the tractor off the battery was still dead so I put the charger back on, it'd be my luck I'll have to buy him a new battery.
I'm thinking about swapping in a injector from my spare 3930 engine just to see if that stops the knock before buying a new injector.
I enjoy messing with these 3 - 4 cylinder models and have 6 of my own, but at this moment I'd just like to see this one go away.

I think it likes my place better than his, but I don't think I can afford to feed it!

Sorry for the long rant, I had come to the house to cool down, get a sandwich and cool drink and needed to vent a little.

This darn tractor just won't go away.

Well I'm cooled off now, guess I'll go back out and pull some injectors.

I hate deals like that. You just get so sick of looking at them, let alone working on them.

I take it you don't want to swap 1 & 3 to see if the noise moves.

Even a group 31 is over 125 amp hours and if completely dead would need a SLOW deep charge with cooling periods to get back to fully charged not just surface charged.

Thanks for everyones response.

I spent about an hour getting #3 injector out and about 10 minutes getting one out of the 3930 engine, haven't tried it yet.
That is a good idea on moving the inj around but for now I don't what to mess with trying to pull another one out.

The battery charged enough to turn the engine a few times last night and I left the charger set on 10 amps all night.
Hopefully it'll keep the charge.
