NAA Brake rod and shims

I am doing the brakes , rear axle seals and bearing. The left side was a ness. Looks like the brake backing plate broke at one time and was welded back together.. they also never torque down the shaft nut and replaced the snap ring . I have a new parts coming along with a new dust shield .and camshaft cover with a spring. When I took off the brake camshaft actuating rod on the left side it has a bend in it. Is that correct?
Also from what I read when you reassemble it all back together i have to bracket the metal shims with fiber ones. I am thinking that means to put them on each side of the shim and what about where their are two metal shim together does one also go in the middle?
Thanks in advance

"brake camshaft actuating rod on the left side it has a bend in it"

Since you mention left side, I believe you mean the round rod that
runs from the transmission housing through the back of the brake
dust plate. If that's the case, mine are straight. No bends in them.
I may have a spare one out here as well, but will need to check.

When I did the shims, I based what I put in on end play.
If I could put a fiber one in between the metal ones, I did.
I used a very thin film of RTV, rubbed on with my finger, either way.
Right, wrong or indifferent, they haven't leaked since. HTH!
