what should i be looking for broke lever arm or gear ?

Not much information to go on. Did it make a noise when it quit? Does it grind when you try to engage the handle? Have you taken off the round cover where the PTO handle is located to see what you can through there?

With the engine off grab the pto shaft and
see if you can pull it out at all.
Tell us what you find.

it got a clutch override on it turn free
but don't know if it turn inside because of clutch
or if pto shift not work there a lot play on the shift of the pto level on or off
was mowing and pto it quit no bang no thing just stop

it was mowing and it just quit working there was no noise when it quit
has a clutch override it turn there but i can see if turn inside the lever seem too be free
all i can see main shaft before i have drain the oil in to see the PTO shaft..

If you can turn ORC both ways and not move PTO shaft, your ORC is shot.

I might suggest that you remove the ORC and see what you've got. Then let us know that you installed a new ORC and everything is fine!

ditto what larry said. remove the ORC.. you can't continue troubleshooting with it on there.
