I've bought a used Ford tractor serial number B843469. This number doesn't seem to correspond to any of the serial number lists I find on the internet. Best I can tell the model number is 4014C, but the 1st digit is mostly missing. Can anyone help?

The reason you can't find much info on this tractor is because your tractor was built in Basildon, England (this is why you have a "B" prefix serial number). From the model number you have I can tell you that it is a "utility tractor", it is diesel, has 540 independant PTO, and an 8 speed transmission. Since the PTO is independant, it would have to be either a 4000 (3 cyl engine), or a 5000 (4 cyl engine). The one character that you can't read will either be a 4 or a D for a 4000, and a 5 or an E for a 5000 (numbers for pre 68's, letters for post 68's).

Today's Featured Article - A Farmall Story - by Ed Meadors. The year was 1978. Our young family had recently moved to rural Chesapeake, Virginia to a plot of land which would finally allow us to realize our dreams of a huge garden, critters and more lawn and pasture than we would ever use! We needed a TRACTOR; not a riding mower or tractor wannabe, but a real TRACTOR. The answer to our needs materialized in the form of a '44 Farmall A, complete with cultivators, discs, single plow, a 5ft.Woods belly mower and one, mounted spare 9.00x24 rear wheel. ...
