Ford 3000 Lift Problems

I've been experiencing some problems with my 3000's hydraulics. The symptoms are:
- erratic lift, sometimes it will/sometimes it won't.
- when mowing, occasionally the deck will lower on its own, causing no little amount of frustration -- not to mention pasture damage.

With the tractor running and as i move the selector to lift, it usually comes up a bit -- then I can physically lift the implement (bush hog) all the way up, and it stays. Lowering is also erratic.

I'm hearing there may be some crud in the check valve from one source; I've made a visual check of both filters from the side hatch and they're very clean -- both were replaced as part of the renovation just before I bought the tractor.

Although somewhat of a novice I'm not afraid to make repairs if you all will double-check me. I have a few photos, one (to make sure I'm in the right area) of the cover plate, one of the hydraulic circuit from the manual, and another of the plate (from the manual) and I'll try to attach them next.

I'd like to order an o-ring kit before removing the cover (source? P/N?), and any other advice/guidance is certainly welcome.

Thanks pards.

Here's the cover in question (I think)

Check the friction disk on the quadrant lever first. If it's not good, that can be part of it. On the right side is there a flow control valve with a knob that points rearward? What the lift cover that the
seat sits on refurbished as part of the renovation?

Thank you for your response. I'll need to examine the friction disk next time I'm up there -- can you describe how solid/easy the movement of the lift control lever should be? Seems like movement should be firm and solid, and would stay in a set position without drifting. Not loosey-goosey but not so bound that you'd have to put a lot of weight on the lever to move it.

Looked at the manual a good bit but can't really tell how to disassemble the quadrant lever, and I can't remember if there's a cotter pin on the end of the shaft (outboard end) or not. If I take a new friction disk with me next time is it a big PIA to replace, or a fairly easy job?

Yes, the flow control valve is there -- see it in the first photo? Lower left corner of the photo below the draft control lever. Where should the flow control valve be set for good flow, all the way out? I didn't know so I set it about half-way.

Other than the filters being changed I don't think anything else was done with the hydraulic system.
