Ford 5000 Leaking Fluid around the Steering Wheel

Our Ford 5000 (model: E10140) started leaking steering fluid out around the steering wheel. I'm assuming that its an upper seal that needs to be replaced. Any tips or suggestions for the correct part number and how to remove and replace? Thanks!

On my old 1972 5000, I had a drip leak at the top of the column several years back. Although I generally do not like to fix things this way, I added some STP power steering stop leak hoping it would get me through the end of hay season. After running the unit several hours after adding the fluid, the leak stopped. That was over 5 years ago. I realize that next time it goes, i"ll be going into the box but it bought me some time. It"s worth a try unless it"s pouring fluid too badly currently.

E10140 is actually likely to be E1014C, as neither a zero or the letter "O" would be the correct last character for a 5000. The E10 at the beginning means that it is a 5000 general purpose ag chassis tractor. The second 1 means that it has a diesel engine and the 4 means that it has independent 540 rpm PTO. The C at the end would mean that it has the 8 speed transmission.
As Bern said, replace all the seals while you're in there.

Also, get yourself a service manual. It will save you lots of headaches and time wasted coming back here to ask each time you come across something that you're not sure of.

The seal is the easy part. Getting the steering wheel off and then the hood could be the hard part.

You need seal #18. Myself, I would do all the seals in that box.
