anouther 841 clutch problem question

Old and mhb@ufe gave some great advice on this
problem of rpms going down when clutch is pressed
down and going back up when leting off how would
you check the end play on the crank to check thrust
bearings and if that's not it.how do I check throwe out
baering other than splitting tell me some tricks please
if anybody knows of some and as a educated guess
how long do I have in till I have a major breakdown
with any of these problems or others it could be have
1 service manual for this machine but going to order
more soon thanks

You can check the crankshaft end play with a large screw driver or pry bar on the front crankshaft pulley to see if it moves back and forth. Be gentle though as you don't want to bend the pulley. I would think if the throw out bearing was bad enough to cause your problem it would be very noisy.

that might be the case you know I have noticed a noise in the front of the engine I thought it was the water pump but haven't got a chance to check it out if I do find play on front of crank pulley how big a job is it to replace thrust bearings as I said I have service manual but it is very old and most pages in it are disintegrated thanks

The thrust bearing is one of the main crankshaft bearings. If it is worn enough to cause the problem you have it most likely will require removing the crank and having it ground and new bearings.

OK walked out to shop and checked no play in crank pulley there is a little in wp guess that's the noise we have been hearing. The problem on clutch seems to do it more when it is warmed up more than when its cold.shoot still for got to check free travel just for the heck of it

Did you try prying the crank pulley forward and the try prying it to the rear? I'm not referring to play like you found in the water pump, It would actually be moving the crankshaft back and forth. You could also start the tractor and get someone to operate the clutch to see if you can see any movement.

i'd be looking at the throw out bearing being seized or seizing.

got a cherry picker to support the hood and steering box?
