841 fuel tank leaking

The tank its self is leaking not the turn valve in the right hand corner side closest to radiator above the oil fill cap there is a support on the bottom of the tank fixed to the tank its self seems to be leaking from this general area my question is are the tank seal up kits you can buy at the parts store (the stuff you pour in and let harden) worth trying I know I would have to get the product to settle in the corner of the tank with out plugging the screen but I thank if I let the air out of theright ffront tire and maybe use a jack I can get it to settle in the problem area have looked in the archives on here and read past discussion on guys using a tank for a Naa so to be clear that tank would work? If I had to replace the old one and would the Naa tank give me the ability to get the 1gallon reserve with2turns n r out my current valve does not have this but would like to fixe the leak if I could /1959/172ci/gas/ thanks

if i did use a tank sealer. i'd for sure take the tank out and not try to seal it in place.

and yes. the 801 tanks were big.. thus the smaller tanks will fit in. the naa repop tanks USUALLY have places for both fuel taps . if you wanted to use the naa style valve you would have to rejigger and union your fuel line, reroute it too. I bet they make a brass compression union to handle the size mismatch.

So you don't thank I could seal with the tank in I was going to try the quick fix first if I pulled the tank I would probably go ahead and replace it any other options you can thank of?

quick or good. usually can only have one. take yer pick?

if you pull it off you might actually find the leak. ( crack, pinhole..e tc... )

The spot welds that attach the support to the bottom of the tank have cracked from years of vibration. You must remove the tank and thoroughly clean it if you are going to put any of those internal sealers in it. I can guarantee you that it will start leaking again- sooner rather than later.
The only way you will fix it is to remove the tank, drill out all of the spot welds, weld up the cracks and weld the support back on. You may as well just go ahead and buy a new tank.

I know you are trying to avoid removing the tin, but look at it like this, do the hassle once, thread chase all nuts and bolts, and use neversieze, then it will be a breeze if you have to remove it again later

again thanks soundguy and Texas its frustrating because I just had the tin off a year ago to pull radiator and do some other things the tank was not leaking then put it all back together a a month later fuel tank starts leaking guess I should have replaced / inspected will I was in there on fuel tank but I didn't its just a drip but its like 5cents a drop

If you did a good job on the fastners like I mentioned, you can't have her clothes off in half an hour, good luck, bring chocolate just in case. :)
