Early 4000 series starter?

I bought a 3 bolt starter from a 600 series tractor and the Bendix looks like the one used on the N series. I see they are different part numbers but are they compatible?

How can I verify the right Bendix for my early 4000 Series?

The Bendix was in the engaged position and I taken it apart to reposition it back to the start position. Didn't have any luck with the bench grinder trick.

(quoted from post at 07:31:59 04/01/14) any reason to think the 00 starter didn't have a correct drive gear on it?

From photos it looks like the N series drive. None of the photos I've seen for the 100 series look like the one I have.

What I have.
