63 4000 5speed with rattle in trans

I just bought this tractor a auction, not checked the fluids yet. the rattle is in all gears,and stops only with the clutch in.

I have had that in more than one rig. I can't remember which ones they were or if I ever fixed them or not. I want to say that at least in one it was the cushioning springs in the clutch disc. It never resulted in any problem.

Is this a diesel? are you using trans/hyd oil in the transmission? Having not heard the noise but if the answer is yes to the two questions, it might be just normal

Yes it is a diesel,I have run a gaser for years it doesnt rattle, whines bad in reverse,but no rattle.

I had that happen on my 4600 turned out to be the center hub in the clutch disk.

Yes does it in neutral.Nephew loaded it and said he didnt hear anything. Might be im just looking to hard for something wrong,but the rattle was in it yesterday when I started it before the auction.

maybee you heard some sheet metal rattle. plenty of places for a rattle on an old machine
