both are diff locks, finally got the new holland site to give me the ratios, they gave me 6.16 versus 6.67 the difference really wouldn't matter to me as long as it would work(fit). on the 3500 parts list they list the 2000 and 3000 series under the same tab, so i thought those should fit at least, and give me another option.

Hello David , 6.16 ratio is for 8 speed tractors , 6.67 ratio is for Select-o-speed tractors there is NO variations . 7.17 is for 3500 Industrial tractors ONLY . Yes the Entire Rear end assembly from the 2000/2600 or 3000/3600 will bolt on to the 3500 transmission BUT it is SMALLER and WEAKER that is why it is different . The 3500 Industrial Rear center section is LARGER and Thicker steel , the axle tubes are LARGER diameter , the axle shafts are LARGER diameter and why you may ask because it is INDUSTRIAL and it designed to carry a 3000lb BACKHOE 2000/3000 tractors are not but it will . The real question will be for how long will it last before you break it in half . So do your self a favor find the 3500 parts fix it right the first time so you don't break it half later on from doing it wrong now . If it did not need to be that way Ford would not have done it that way . Thanks Tony

Thanks tony it is for very light use, so light it may well last another 10 years like it is. the ring gear is in very rough shape though. i think i'll keep an eye out for a 3500 parts machine and just keep running it like i have until then. thanks.

The brake shoes, ring/pinion ratio, and probably other items are different, but the assemblies most definitely will interchange.

Hello David , ABSOLUTELY NOT ! The 3500 INDUSTRIAL ONLY rear end assembly's from 1965 -1972 are all by themselves and NOTHING interchanges with anything but another 3500 . The gear ratio is 7.17 and a 2000/2600 or 3000/3600 is 6.16 . You need to find another 3500 Industrial tractor and NOT A 3550 Industrial tractor which is the wet brake version . Thanks Tony

I wont go out on a limb and say yes. But I'm pretty sure they would. I have swapped them around from a 2000, 3000 and 3400 so I know those will all interchange. 3600 is fundamentaly the same rear end. I don't think I would pay for the parts, ship them across the country and then hope they fit. But if the tractors were local I wouldn't hesitate to give it a go. If one tractor has differential lock and the other does not you would need the trumpets - or at least the left one - to make it work.
