Torque Cam?

Here's an odd question. I'm getting ready to rebuild my 1955 850 engine. If this were any other engine, I would be looking for performance gains. Does anyone make a "hot" cam for the 172? No, not looking for HP, but what about some added torque? I'm not dumb enough to stroke it, even if someone did make the crank. Will I gain anything by spending quality time with the head and a die grinder? I'm not going pulling or trying to make a tractor-dragster, I just always kinda feel that if you're going through a motor, there's no reason not to improve it. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
AC

I am sure there are some folks that regrind cams for pullers. If your cam is good I would leave it alone and raise the compression mill the head .050 or change to a later casting or both. If you know what you are doing go in behind the valve seat and work there and the short side of the turn. Later model intake and bigger carb and larger exhaust. if you have to buy pistons and sleeves go for the 4 inch bore and should have a popup. the 134 pistons do i have a set. At the end of the project you still want something that will run all day and not run hot. or find a good 192.

Your low RPM industrial AG engine is designed for low end torque. I doubt that you will find a better camshaft for it in this regard.

If you want more power, istall oversized sleeves and pistons (if still available) and mill the head.
