641 carb/govener isue

My Ford 641 has been running great, Yesterday while running the PTO wood splitter it started to surge "hunt" I run the splitter at about 1,000 ROMs.
Could the problem be dirt or something in the carb?

Make sure the load on the pto isn't causing a problem. Also, check the throttle shaft of the carb for smooth operation by removing the linkage at the carb (engine off) and turning it by hand. It should be smooth and turn with little effort. -Will

If nothing has changed in the way you are using the tractor check for fuel blockage first in seddemrent bowl then oin fuel line then innedle 7 seat of carb. To check for fuel shortage pull choke out about half while tractor is surgeing& see if it smoothes out

tug a lil choke next time it does it. if it smooths out. deffinately look at the fuel system
