Ford 2000 LCG from Golf Course

My family and I were camping and it was raining pretty bad so we were in the camper lazing about early in the morning. I was bored and started looking on Craigslist like I do all too often. An add pops up 2000 LCG $800 OBO. I opening it up and it showed a grainy front shot which looked pretty good. I called the guy and it was in Omaha not far from me and that he had just listed it. As I knew it had to be a pretty good deal, I told him I would take it and was on my way. I threw my son in the truck and away we went not knowing what I had committed to. When we got there we found it was a golf couse and it was the head maintenance mechanic that I was dealing with. He was a great guy and gave us this history on the machine.

The original owner was a partner in the golf couse and bought it new in 1964. He kept this one for personal use and used it mainly for odd jobs and later in life used it for snow removal hence the blade you see in the pictures. He passed away in 1999 and it went back to the golf course. The head maintenance mechanic kept it up and started it once or twice a year to drive it around the course to keep the seals fresh. This year, he said it would not start as it needed new points and he decided that it was just in the way anyway so he listed it on craigslist. He said it is original paint except the seat and the bumper, but otherwise has never been messed with and that obviously was well cared for. It was stored inside.

After installing a new set of points, I drove it up on the trailer but it would only go so far with the wide tires. He had the original manual for it. As we loaded it, a worker of his was taking an Iphone video and stated that he had never seen it run. The great granddaughter of the original owner pulled up on a golf cart but did not seem too impressed. Kids these days.

It is serial number 5653x and has a model number of 21315. It is a SOS with pto, power steering and foot feed. This is the first power steering 4 cylinder that I have driven and am pretty impressed. Paint is original and it has some scratches and dings, but I am thrilled.

My wife named it Toad. Great.... It will be shipped back to the family homestead and will be sentenced to a life of ease doing odd jobs and maybe pulling a cart. At this point, I have used up all of my good luck for the year. I thought some of you might find this interesting and I would appreciate any comments good or bad. It is not perfect but is a pretty neat find.

Good find, and great price! I can't find parts machines for that money here. Looks about as close to perfect as you'll find in a 49 year old machine. And a working, original tach!

Boy did you fall in a pile of poop! I just wish I could find such a buy once and a while and I'm only about a hundred miles west of Omaha! Congrats, should be a good tractor. I'm just jealous. Greg NE

Extraordinary deal.

A close friend of mine has a (once) nearly identical 63 version but (once) with the OEM 8.4X24 duals and without the PS.

Great little mowing tractor.

Sadly, my friend has thoroughly thrashed his.

Those are nice tractors, we had the thousand series in LCG's on the lot, likely an order but they were popular for use with mowers and hills.

Aren't you the one who found that D2 or D4 in original paint, well taken care of ? If so, you hit the jackpot again LOL !

One of the reasons I liked the hundred series, besides the lcg's as they are really stable with loaded tires on the hillsides here.

I spent a lot of hours on a '64 4000 as a kid, it had an S-O-S, power steering, miss that tractor immensely, my 850 had power steering, I am yet to get into the job of fixing that, I'd be real happy just to have power steering, its a real tough tractor to run without it in tight places or trying to moldboard plow my hillside/terrace garden.

Great find, best of luck with it !

Thanks guys. Pictures make it look better that it probably is. It was used for some snow removal and has some rust on the fenders. I took a pic of a decal under the hood that I thought was pretty neat. It is for Autolite and has the Ford Motor Company Logo on it.

That was me and it was a D2. We did determine that it had a respray, but still is an amazing tractor. We drive it around every time I get home.

That don't matter, good stuff, these kinds of finds, nice shape, makes em nostalgic, a lot of fun to operate and use, and they all have a story, that includes living under a roof and being watched over by someone who took the time to always take good care of it.

Yep you stole that one. Always wanted one never could find one here in Florida that wasn't ran into the ground as they were used almost year round here. Built one out of an 8n but sure would like to have one like that one.

had one just like it at the country club of Lansing but it was a diesel and had a big industrial loader on it that was too big. And yes it had the 8.4x24 duals on it with NO traction or weight, the back of the tractor would lift if you had much weight in the loader. We also had a 2110 gasoline with the 8.4x 24s and 231 gas with tires like you have. Before I quit we put the newer style tires on the 2110. After I left the 2000 got traded for a MF 255 with a loader. Saw the old 2000 a few years later at a gas station in East Lansing, it had regular industrial tires on it.
