My family and I were camping and it was raining pretty bad so we were in the camper lazing about early in the morning. I was bored and started looking on Craigslist like I do all too often. An add pops up 2000 LCG $800 OBO. I opening it up and it showed a grainy front shot which looked pretty good. I called the guy and it was in Omaha not far from me and that he had just listed it. As I knew it had to be a pretty good deal, I told him I would take it and was on my way. I threw my son in the truck and away we went not knowing what I had committed to. When we got there we found it was a golf couse and it was the head maintenance mechanic that I was dealing with. He was a great guy and gave us this history on the machine.
The original owner was a partner in the golf couse and bought it new in 1964. He kept this one for personal use and used it mainly for odd jobs and later in life used it for snow removal hence the blade you see in the pictures. He passed away in 1999 and it went back to the golf course. The head maintenance mechanic kept it up and started it once or twice a year to drive it around the course to keep the seals fresh. This year, he said it would not start as it needed new points and he decided that it was just in the way anyway so he listed it on craigslist. He said it is original paint except the seat and the bumper, but otherwise has never been messed with and that obviously was well cared for. It was stored inside.
After installing a new set of points, I drove it up on the trailer but it would only go so far with the wide tires. He had the original manual for it. As we loaded it, a worker of his was taking an Iphone video and stated that he had never seen it run. The great granddaughter of the original owner pulled up on a golf cart but did not seem too impressed. Kids these days.
It is serial number 5653x and has a model number of 21315. It is a SOS with pto, power steering and foot feed. This is the first power steering 4 cylinder that I have driven and am pretty impressed. Paint is original and it has some scratches and dings, but I am thrilled.
My wife named it Toad. Great.... It will be shipped back to the family homestead and will be sentenced to a life of ease doing odd jobs and maybe pulling a cart. At this point, I have used up all of my good luck for the year. I thought some of you might find this interesting and I would appreciate any comments good or bad. It is not perfect but is a pretty neat find.
