641 tank support

I have a tank support on a rehab project that the holes the bolts pass through to mount to the block are broken off. So get to shopping and finding the part reasonable but I see some with the side shield and some without. Both my tank supports have the side shield. I can see the rear support shield diverting heat away from the air cleaner but don"t see exactly what the front support shield would offer. Already determined the tractor has been "farmerized" on some other parts. Are both supports to have shields?? The parts diagram shows both with it and a single part number for both. I guess seeing some without has me questioning what I need. Thanks for the help.
 
I"ve seen them with and without the heat shield. Maybe the early ones had the shields and then Ford engineers decided the shield didn"t really do anything so they discontinued the shield along with it"s extra cost. In your search for a replacement be sure you don"t buy one off of a diesel engine because they are wider where they attach to the head.

The shield on the front has to be removed if you have power steering. Without power steering you can use the support with shield on both ends. That's why you see them both ways.
