1954 Ford NAA

I have a chance to buy a 1954 Ford NAA that is in very nice shape. It ran a year ago, won't start now, but when I looked at it it cranked over. The owner was told it needs a new ignition switch. She's 70 years old, they are the original owners. The tractor is still 6 volt, was always serviced by a shop, the top end was redone at some point, maybe an overhaul, she wasn't sure. The tires are all good, the metal is all perfect except for a quarter size dent on one of the legs. There's not many leaks that I can see.

My question is what would this tractor be worth or what would be a fair offer. I may be able to get her to get it running, but not sure.

She's asking $1000, I offered $500, she came back with $875. I think there may be some more room to negotiate. What does anyone think?

What's a fair price?

What do you feel about the NAA?

To me it would depend on what you were gonna do with it. Turn around and sell it or keep it as a runner?
If you are looking for a runner even at the Grand she's asking it's cheap for the tires, tin and history you describe.
A tractor that has a battery and turns over is worth a lot more than some hulk in the hedgerow.
Probably just touch the points a little or bring a jumper wire along and it would run.
I wouldn't beat the seller down too much.
Heck, if you part it it's one of the few Fords that the rear end parts - Ring and pinion, even the center housing - will sell.

not running tractor? I usually don't like paying over 700$

875 is close..

if she got it running I'd pay 1000$.

if you want to gamble on the non runner and fix it yourself.. i'd haggle between that 700# and the curretn 875 and see what goes

a jumper wire can bpass the ign switch

In this area, (I'm in n/w WI) $1000 for the condition you describe would be a good deal.

We're displaced cheese heads (IN), but still have family in NE-WI.

And I always thought all the deals were up north.

I don't think it would be much of a deal after you paid gas and tolls to come get it.

Is there much desire in the NAA?

I figured from your handle that you were in this general area...yeah, gas and tolls would pretty much ruin the deal for me. NAA's are popular - live hydraulics and a good engine. 36coupe's points are valid...but I've never had a problem with the hubs on my Jubilee in as long as I can remember. Did have to replace the ring and pinion about 20-25 years ago due to a broken tooth. Still gets about 100 hours of use per year. It's been here since my Grandpa bought it in the mid '50's.

That is one of those things that is hard to say. If she said $875 and your pretty sure that she is not telling you like it is that is fair. Of course you never know with one that does not run and if the person is true to there word or>.. If me I would check for spark and if you find non then good chance a simple hot wire and or cleaning of the points would fix it. We picked up an 8N a few years ago side mount distributor and 4 or 5 pieces of equipment for $800 and my friend asked me how we going to load all this stuff and I said simple with the tractor. The guy who sold it took off and 10 minutes after he left my friend was driving it around all be it on flat rear tires but we got every thing loaded up that way

Sounds like you got a great deal!

I've been taken twice now, so I'm a little gun shy.

But I feel I can believe the lady with the history she has given me and just how she talks of her equipment in general. It did surprise me when she said it had not run in about a year that there was still a bit of juice left in the battery to give it a couple turns. That made me happy it wasn't stuck.

We'll see. I might have to be posting on how to get it running!

I almost bet if you cleaned the points and charged the battery up and made sure you have a good blue/white spark it would fire right up and then you would be back at that $1000 if not more price tag LOL

Seems like a pretty good price. In my neck of the woods (pacific NW) about 1200$ would be the low end and rapidly up from there. I paid about where you are at for mine and it needed a head, but has a loader. There is one I have my eye on but she is asking 5k for it and 3 implements. Beauty in the eye of the beholder I guess

Has the same troublesome hubs as the 8n and a weak differential housing that was changed later.Price is right but I would favor a 600 series if I were buying.
