power steering fluid for 801

I have not been able to sort out whether modern power steering fluid would be a good choice for the 'new' power steering assembly I am adding to my 601/801 (has 641 stamped, but 172 motor).
Seems I searched the forum and found one thread that had all kinds of recommendations (including UTF), but now can't find it again.
Why not just modern power steering fluid? It is indeed a 'separate' system from either trans or hydraulics.
Too thin for pump?
Anyway, would appreciate knowing what is 'best' for this old (well....57-59 type) pump.
Thanks.

Others here may disagree with me, but I don't see why you couldn't use modern power steering fluid. If you do, consider Valvoline hi-mileage with stop leak. It seems to be nearly as thick as UTF (like M2C134D from CNH) and is essentially hydraulic fluid. It has the advantage that if you have a small leak it can help with that. Prestone makes a similar product. Using UTF is OK too, it has the advantage that you can use one fluid for everything, if that's important to you (it's not to me). -Will

wile it will likely digest anyting from 10w30 to 30w engine oil, atf fluid, ps fluid and straight hyd oil 1so 32/46 I just put utf in mine. one less fluid to stock.

Thanks guys,
I have a gallon of power steering fluid and in fact also a quart of the Valvoline High Milage with the 'please don't leak'. Bought a new filter element. Will flush system with some plain PSF then add the Valvoline and top off with plain PSF. Hopefully will do the trick.

I have always used ATF in my 841. Tried the UTF once and it did not seem to like the stuff so went back to the ATF.
