rear end leak

My 640 leaks around the shaft that goes from the axle trumpet. Does the trumpet have a plug like a freeze plug where the shaft goes into the trumpet?
Also can it be replaced without removing the trumpet? I am talking about the round brake shaft.

just hate it when my rear end leaks!.....you know, the skid marks and all?

I don't think there should be a passage from the brake shaft into the oiled cavity........might get someone to check one or pull shaft & take a look.

I had my brake shafts off my 660 last fall. The shafts just sit in a socket in the trumpet with no connection in the sump. No freeze plug there.

Seems like a really odd place for a leak to me. A crack? Maybe, but I doubt it.

Can you post a picture?

,Acording to he parts book, there is a expansion plug in the trumpet that seals oil.The trumpet housing has to removed to replace it. Darn!!!

A guy I know had that same problem on a 3000 last fall. Wayne is correct - there is a soft plug behind there and the trumpet has to come off to repair it.

Darned if you aren't right Wayne, I never saw it. Its part number 74121-S
