4000 Steering Cylinder Seal Kit Question

I'm trying to re-seal the steering cylinders on a '63 4000 Light Industrial. According to NH, the part# CAPN3301A is the seal kit for the 5/8" dia. rod cylinder, then I go on line to find the kit and all the stores say that this CAPN3301A kit is not for the OEM cylinders? Is the NH kit not for the OEM cylinders, are my cylinders aftermarket? I can't find a number anywhere on the cylinders.

Any help would be greatly appriciated, this thing is hell to turn w/o ps!

Thanks, Mike

Anybody? I really don't want to pay $200 for a steering cylinder. I can't believe the price on these things! Surely I'm not the only poor farmer on here that would like to try to get by with a repair?

I don't have a parts manual so your numbers don't mean much. Have you tried calling a dealer?
I use Aitkin Implement in Aitkin MN. Talk to Larry the parts man there. 218 927 2522 I know the only thing repairable/replaceable on an OEM cylinder is the rod seal.

As UD said, the only replaceable part on the original cylinder is the rod seal in the end of the cylinder. The cylinder is welded shut so to replace any internal seals requires cutting the cylinder open, replacing the seals and welding the cylinder back together. By the time you pay a shop to do that the $200 new cylinder will look cheap.

Thanks for the replys. The cylinder was working, it was just leaking bad on the rod seal, so hopefully the inner seals are in good working order.

And thanks for the contact number, I will call him.
