2N steering problem

Guys I am here from the Green site. I have a friend who has a 9N and while using it with a blade the front steering went South (and North :D ). He said both wheels are pointed out. Said nothing visible is broken or bent. He thinks it is in the steering gear box. I sure can't tell him what to look for and he is not a mechanic.
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Charles

I believe there is a gear on the end of the steering shaft that meshes with the left and right sector gear. It sounds like is has broken.

Not uncommon on a 9/2N to skip a gear if the sectors are worn.
I haven't done it but am pretty sure you can just loosen the top tranny cover, lift it slightly and set the gears right without removing anything from the tractor.
Keep in mind though if it happened once it will likely happen again.

Thank you for the help. I will send this to him. I will post back with what he finds. If anything else comes to mind please let me know.

Actually you can retime the steering sectors just by disconnecting the draglinks. Procedure is explained very well in the I&T FO4 manual. Probably a lot of wear and it could likely happen again. Also the thrust bearings on the steering shaft may be gone.

Thanks.
I did not know that. And I need to get an FO-4 again as I lost or sold mine. Anybody got a cheap one for sale?
Are sector gears, rebuild stuff, etc. available for them?
My first tractor was a 2N but it ran so good I never had to fix it much and so didn't learn a lot about them.
