555 Ford extenda-hoe

Can anyone help me with information on this old TLB?

I found a 555 Ford extenda-hoe.
I get to check it out next weekend.
The motor does have some blow-by.
Hours are unknown, around a 1980 model.
This backhoe is two wheel drive. It has new tires, two buckets and a set of pallet forks, the injection pump and starter have been redone.
Service manual is included.
$6500.00
Note: The owner tells me the manual says it is a 201 @ 45HP?
I'll record the numbers for verification.
It is supposed to be a good runner. (Aren't they always!) LOL
I'll know more when I see it.

I'll try to get some pictures.

According to tractordata, the 555 was a 201 engine, but they say it was 57hp.

$6500.00 sounds like a fairly reasonable price if everything's working correctly.

The 555 used the 4600/4610 engine so is should have close to 60 hp at the flywheel. That said... someone could have installed another engine... and some 201's were derated for other tractors down to high 40's in flywheel power. Either way it's not going to be a very powerfull machine.
It's also got a fairly small hoe... and if you look at it you may find that it's still a tractor with loader and backhoe attachment rather than a dedicated frame machine with modular drivetrain components. In my mind that would make it somewhat less valuable that other machines.
IF this one runs well then I think 6500 is fair. If it has problems then 6500 is too much...

45 HP is correct; 52 HP if the engine has Hedland pistons. Check the inner air filter; if its filthy the motor is probably damaged. Check the hydraulic pump drive; you'll have to pull the front grill to do this; four bolts. If the pump drive has a lot of slop, its shot; excessive wear may have taken out the input shaft on the pump. Check the front axle pivot pins and bushings; raise the front axle off the ground with the bucket and check for movement. Look for cracks in the hoe and loader frame; these tend to develop on the edges of the welds. Check the dipper stick on the hoe for cracks; the tubes like to crack below the pivot pin where the braces intersect the tube. The tube is probably covered in grease. You're looking for a hair line crack which is hard to find until its steamed off. Check the brakes to make sure you have some. The rest is visual; pins and bushings, hoses, hyd leaks. Not much I can tell you about the shuttle. If its not working correctly, its an expensive fix. You don't often get lucky and discover a cheap repair. Hope this helps.

Hi all
Thank you all for the information!
Now I have something to check for, when I get to look at it.
Regards
Brian
PS - I'll post back then.

Well, right or wrong, it's now mine!
No leaks showing after running quite a while, some slop in front axle and swing pins, but still a decent running machine.
I got the price down a bit too!
