Started dismantling.. here's a few pics. Lots of neglect, but so far nothing too serious. Fourth picture shows the lever into the axle for the diff lock, but all of the exterior parts appear to be missing. Despite what you can see in the last photo, there doesn't appear to be any mouse damage to the wiring harness.

Pretty good looking old tractor. Needs a bit of cleaning. I often wonder why a guy can't take a pressure washer to it once every 10 years or so.
It probably is a repaint as those models came from the factory with Buff (light yellow) tin, fenders and wheels.
The first 3000 that I owned had the diff lock missing parts just like that. My guess was it was a factory delete. I started looking in to it and found that all the internal parts were there just the external ones were missing. So I bought those parts from a junk yard and it worked good.
You will have to remove the axle trumpet to replace the lower lift pin as it is longer so the diff lock pedal can rotate on it. Was not hard to do.

Thanks Ultradog -- that's good news. Definitely a repaint.. I can still see what was originally yellow and what wasn't. I think I'll put it back the way it was, since a lot of the paint is peeling anyway.

I may need some advice on the Holley carb once I get into it but after reading some of the threads it sounds like Hobo and you have both successfully rebuilt them and it's mostly a matter of getting a decent rebuild kit, either from Tisco or CNH.

This one should be a bit more fun to clean up and get running again, since I don't need it to be working while I'm trying to fix it :^)

Looks like a good project. At first I figured that
was a replacement cluster, but since it's only
gotten 9 hours in the last 13 years... or maybe the
tach cable broke shortly after the last oil change.
Is this the one you're thinking about putting a hoe
on? 3-point would have to come off, wouldn't it?

Yeah you noticed the oil filter markings too.. I think after the original owner passed, the tractor just sat after that, but it was in a barn most of that time. Tach works, and I ran it long enough to see the rightmost digit advance. Not yet sure if they all work but I'm hoping they do and that those are original hours.

I confess I don't know enough about adding a hoe yet to know. I've got a 4000su now and I'd love to take the loader off it. Once this one is running as a loader tractor, I could see removing the 3pt if necessary to add a hoe instead.
