12 Volt Solenoid on 6 Volt System

What would occur if this was done? My solenoid went out and I have what looks like the same solenoid except in a 12 volt. My tractor is an 860.

If its a flat mount mount (3 post) you should be able to use on 6 volt or 12 volt system.

If it is a true 12 volt solenoid it will not work well if at all. The reason is a 12 volt one has a higher resistance then the 6 volt one has so it need the higher voltage to pull it into the contact position

i have two parts books that say the Ford flat mount(3 post) can be used on 6 volt or 12 volt system.If you have a 4 post you can't.

The reason that books says that if because the 3 post is a 6 volt solenoid which will work on both 5 or 12 volts but the 4 post is a true 12 volt one and only works on 12 volts

6v will work on 12v.. most 12v won't work on 6v. as they usually need 9v to pull in..
