I was talking to a guy on another site and he says 3 in 1 oil is okay to use in our distributors. Do any of you guys you is this oil? If not what kind of oil do you use for distributor lube?

it won't hurt.. it's just a light oil like sewing machine oil.. IMHO I'd use heavier, and I'd use whatver is in the crankcase.. I have a lil pump (squeak-squeak) oiler that the nose fits the oiler hole fine.

Use your dipstick. Pull it and drop a drop or two of oil in the dist oiler. Pull it again and drop a couple more. Never forget that you always have a ready drop or two of oil for lubing a bolt or oiling a tool, bushing etc on the dipstick.

3 in 1 oil will gum up a sewing machine. The original 3 in 1 oil was a mix of animal, vegetable and mineral oil.May be different now.

3-in-One Oil is a general-purpose lubricating oil sold in small cans and squeezable containers for household and do-it-yourself use. It was originally formulated in 1894. Its name, given by the inventor George W. Cole of New Jersey, derives from the product's triple ability to "clean, lubricate and protect," originally for use on bicycles. The formula consists of pale spindle oil with a small amount of corrosion inhibitor and citronella oil (which gives the product its distinctive sharp odor). It remains a popular lubricant for bicycle chains.

(quoted from post at 01:33:51 05/08/11) How often must one do this? ...that is my question!
our N owners manual says, "lubricate with a few drops of SAE20 or SAE30 every 10 hours".
It is easier to read than YT postings.

Stupid me, I should have checked the manual! Anyhow, what would happen if too much oil was put into this little duct? I am guessing it would short out the distributer?

ot sure, but oil is an insulator, so no short, but maybe, just maybe, it might work its way up and oil the points, which need to remain clean of dirt which oil attracts, but gravity wants the oil to go downwards. Don't over oil it.
