There is a 4000 major for sale not too far from me, but the owner has no clue as to what he has. I'm having no luck finding specs for the 4000 Major on line. He just called me with the serial number, if anyone can decode it, I will be most appreciative. <S0765410>

A 4000 Major? I know some of the Super Majors were
called 5000's, and Super Dextas were 2000's, but I
don't know what a 4000 Major would be. A s/n
starting with an 'S' doesn't fit with any '65-up
model. Sounds like a Major/Power Major/Super Major,
if a 4-cylinder, or maybe a Dexta/Super Dexta if a
3-cyl. Might have better luck asking on the Fordson
forum.

sounds like a fordson series from england. good tactors, but very very very difficult to find parts.

In my 1965-1975 Ford Tractor Service Manual in the
Select-O-Speed transmission Part 8 there are
diagrams of the basic SOS. One diagram is listed as
the Dexta 2000, Super Dexta 3000 & Major 4000. The
other diagram is listed as the Super Major 5000.

Thanks all, for your help. I've posted this on the Fordson board. Maybe someone there knows something we don't. Here's the listing with some pics: http://jackson.craigslist.org/grd/2226506815.html

My guess is that it is a standard '65-'68 Ford 4000
that was built and sold in Europe. Ford advertised
them as "World" tractors meaning they were assembled
from components made throughout the world and sold
worldwide. In Europe they were called the Major
4000. If you buy it a 1965-1975 service manual will
cover it.

I agree with awhtx - it's a '65 to early '68 3-cyl.
4000 that was built in England. The 'S' at the
beginning of the s/n is probably actually a 'B'.
The Major label isn't usually used in the U.S. on
'65 and newer models, likewise with the Dexta,
Force and Force II labels.

I don't need something that I can't get parts for, but I'm just curious enough now to go have a look. The owner sounds like a nice guy on the phone, he even called me back with the serial number when I told him where to find it. When asked if it was a 3 or 4 cylinder, he apologized and said he had no clue. It's about an hours drive from me, but as said, my curiosity is in go mode, and if nothing else, maybe I can help him understand what he has. One other thing, he said it had been painted and that he could read Major through the paint. He bought it 2 years ago and thought he was getting a Ford 4000.

Parts availability is not an issue... order them
here, from A&I, your New Holland dealer... Just
order parts for a 3-cylinder 4000. (a few parts
change for different years, but most are the same
for '65 through '75)
