I have a ford 3400 industrial endloader. the pto seems to be a clutch driven pto. My question is should this be a live pto or clutch driven?? Can it be converted into live pto??

3400's can be had with either a transmission driven PTO with a single stage clutch, or Live PTO via a double clutch. No IPTO option was to be had. It is not practical to change from one style to the other.

Post the numbers on the flat spot on the bell housing just toward the rear of the tractor from the starter. One of those number is the "model number" which has all of the specifics including the type of PTO. They were available with transmission driven "non-live", live, and independent PTOs, and the independent's were available in single or dual speed (540/1000 rpm).

Both transmission driven and live PTO are controlled by the clutch. Transmission driven PTOs are onluy powered when the clutch is all of the way out. Live PTO is powered when the clutch pedal is half of the way out, and the transmission is not receiving power yet. Independent PTO is completely independent of the clutch pedal and is controlled only by a handle.
