replaced the leaking brake boots on this 4610, now i cant find the check plug, seems i run into this on every ford tractor i help work on. i can not find a square headed pipe plug on the hyd res. there is a flat head slotted bolt behind the rear support of the RH foot plate. it was reasonably loose when i put a screw driver on it and it would never get any looser, and it will not tighten up. it will also not just pull out, like if it was striped completly out. i know there is a bolt on that side somwhere that holds a pipe on the inside and will drop if you take the bolt loose. i have the pictures of the plug in question, i you have pics of the right plug that would help. on another 6610 i worked on the plug was at the rear above the pto, there is nothing there on this tractor. i am at a loss. thnaks for any help.

I.m not sure if there were any "changes" over the years for the location of the check plug,

On my 88/89 4610 II, the "check plug" is located just in front of where the rear bracket for the running board is bolted to tractor. My tractor is NOT the "SU". The plug on my tractor is a square head 1/8 NPT. and is just below the level of the running board.

Hope this helps.

look up much higher,If it's not square it will be an alien plug. The screw holds the return filter tube to the housing.

Normally they had an allen head pipe plug rather than a common head... so I'm not sure that's the correct one. Are you sure this tractor doesn't have a dipstick on the other side? Reason being I thought that the plug was both higher and further to the rear than the plug you're pointing at...
Second... if you don't get that brake boot up over the land on the rod you're going to tear the boot on the first hard application if you haven't already.. I usually take the backer spring off the boot, CAREFULLY work it over the land on the rod and push it all the way up until it drops off the land, then put the spring back on. The boot as pictured is nearly fully inverted.

mine is a dipstick on the rear end on the left side just in front of the rear axle. Its a common sump iirc.

I would get a parts manual, or go to to the dealer and look at a detailed exploded parts picture to see what that screw holds INSIDE the transmission. You may have loosened something that could come off inside the transmission. A loose nut, bracket, clamp or such can do really bad things in there. Tom
