Well,

I tried something today that seemed a bit weird. However, the source of the tip was a good one so I gave it a try. My front rims did not fare so well after sand blasting. While the outside faces of the rims are beautiful, they were very pitted and rough on the inside where the tube goes.

So....

The tip was to prime them, then line the insides of the rims with "DUCKtape" prior to mounting tubes and tires. Looked funny, but when the guy at the tire shop gave the method an affirmative "second"...I felt pretty good. The purpose of course, was to minimize any rough surface on the rim from wearing the tube prematurely. Worked GREAT!

Now, I am just waiting on my new gauges to show up and I should have it ready for pull start by the end of the week.

I never heard of using duct tape for it, but it's the same principle that they've been using for bicycle and motorcycle wheels for a hundred years. They put a thick wide rubber band around the inside of the rim to protect the tube from the ends of the wire spokes.
