4 cyl Diesel to gas?

I have an opportunity to get a 4-cyl 4000 diesel with a blown engine pretty cheap (rod thru the block.) I have an 860 gas with a good block.

The diesel is an SOS and the gasser is a 5-speed. My question is, is it feasible to rebuild the diesel using the gasser engine? It would be converted to gas, I'm not thinking about repairing the diesel engine.

Also, keep the SOS or use the 5-speed? Any other options? The 860 is a parts tractor.

Thx,

George

Though you cannot use most gasoline engine parts to rebuild the diesel engine, the gasoline engine can be bolted into the 4000 in place of the diesel without major rework.

You cannot use the 860 block to repair the diesel engine.

I would prefer the SOS transmission rather than the 5 speed but many others will disagree.

Yes, I meant that I was thinking about bolting up the gas engine to the (formerly) diesel tractor.

I think I would prefer the SOS also, and would rather not change the trans unless there's a need to.

Though perhaps not necessary, I would recommend using the 860 fuel tank with the gasoline engine to minimize rework.

The 4000 diesel has a 12V electrical system. Unless the 860 has been converted to 12V, be certain to change the ignition coil to a 12V version or at least add a series dropping resistor.

I'd rob the gas engine, and probably the rest of the drive train and rebuild the other one if the price is right.
