59' 641D Front Rims

I took all my parts to the painter to have them sandblasted and painted. They called today because the insides of the front rims were badly rusted and pitted...so the sand blaster uncovered the weak spots and breached thru the compromised metal.

The rims are 6-16" rims (that is the number from the tires that were taken off of the rims).

Any good suggestions on where to get new ones and how much I should have to pay for them?

thanks!

are they so bad that they can't be welded or brazed up?

in any case.. 16" implement rims are pretty common. even tsc sells them.. as well as this site.

That size rim is as common as fleas in my area. Any good farm and home place sells then as do 99% of tractor dealers and this site even has them. The 6 hole 16 inch rim is used but most tractor company's for both tractors and equipment and cost around $50 or so new

Jury is still out on whether they can repair them but the rust is pretty bad on the inside.

These 6-16 rims were on my parts tractor and I preferred the wider front tire so I swapped them. The rims I took off of my good tractor were 4-19". Question is, what was the standard rim that would have come on a 59' 641D?

The thinner rims are not in great shape either and the tires for them are shot. Likely I'm going to be buying a new set.

The 16" rim was standard on a 641D. In fact I think the early 8N was the last tractor that had 19" rims standard. Everything after that got 16's.

Thanks. The FORD/NH Dealer showed a 4-16 as standard, and only showed mine which is a 5.5-16 for RowCrop?? Perhaps when these tractors were new, customers would have some choices as to what sized wheels/tires they wanted on the front?

Anyway...i talked to the paint place again today. They are going to try to weld the bad spots the best they can and see if we can salvage the rims. If not, i've found replacements of the same size for about $75 each. Problem is, then they still have to be painted because they don't come Ford Grey.

All good...I think these rims will take one more remount and will get me by long enough for me to put the rest of the tractor back together.
