4500 SOS clutch rebuild

So I'm into rebuilding the trans in my 4500 SOS and I have a few question hopefully someone else on here has been into one of these things.

I found the problem which prompted the rebuild. The outer seal on the DDC piston was pretty much gone. The old seal that was partially left is some kind of rubber. The new seal I got is made out of steel like a std. piston ring, an obvious improvement.

My question is, should I disassemble the other three clutches and replace the piston seals? Does anyone know if they were steel fro the get go? I wasn't having any problems with these clutches and If I don't need to take them apart that would be much better.

I don't know if its a normal thing, But I had to destroy the pressure plate and the top clutch plates to get the DDC apart. There was no way the cluth pack was going to slide out.

One more thing, Does anyone know where I can get the N-488 Belleville spring compressor?

Thanks,

Jim

when i got my rebuild kit for my 6000 s.o.s. that was the only piston that got the steel ring. the rest were still rubber. i took mine to a local tranny shop to put it back together for me as i did not have a spring compressor.

(quoted from post at 19:15:21 08/20/10) I have ring part of it. Do not have lever part of it.

I found a local dealer that works on these, They have the tool and they're gonna put the clutch together for me.

After cleaning all the parts thoroughly, I noticed the smaller lip on the piston is cracking off. I think it would still function but, I should probably replace the piston. Of course its no longer available. Anyone have one? or know where to get one?
