5000 Plow size?

Guys I was wondering if my 5000 will pull a MF #88 semi mount 4x14 plow, in a sandy loam soil?

The tractor has loaded 13.6x38 rears and MFWD with loaded 9.5x24's up front.

Your tractor must be a Ploughmaster? Anyways, yes the tractor will pull it, but the problem is the style. The 5000 has the draft control on the toplink, so you will need a full mount 4-16" plow. You can plow with the semi-mount, but you'll have one hand on the steering wheel and the other hand on the 3-point hitch lift lever.

Yes, you can pull it fine. I wouldn't worry about the lack of draft control for the semi either.
When you get into larger plows it's often more feasible to use position anyway. Set a depth and go. She'll lug her way through the tough spots.

If you find a set of Massey-Ferguson semi mounted plows they have a hitch that the top link uses for draft control.

You may find it necessary to use position control anyway if you have land with a lot of contour... This is particularly noticable with longer frame plows... but you get in a situation where the high draft signal from rolling through dips and over knolls will take the plow out of the ground... which is why I sometimes use position to set a depth and keep going.
That may not be a factor with the plow you intend to use but it ~is~ very much a factor with the Kverneland AB that I use. Just something to think about...

Thanks for the tips.

Next question what would be a fair price for the plow with a 5th bottom to go with? The plow is in good shape with not a lot of use, and the cylinder and such go with.

Ford dealer,w hen he sold us the tractor, said 80% of the folks don't use draft control anyhow. Works fine to just go plow in position mode, never really saw the big deal about it - my soils are real heavy, hard pulling, and uneven - need one less bottom than anyone says on here for my conditions, and draft mode isn't too important..... 'Here.'

I find plowing with the draft control smoother than playing with the position control. If the ground has some soft spots is where I really notice it.

4 X 16's is pushing it for the horsepower of the
5000. I pulled 4 x 16's with a 7000 in my youth and
in tougher spots it would drag it down. You will
have plenty of traction, just a little shy on power
for my taste.
