3 Screws leaking

I bought a ford 650 and there are 3 screws by the bell housing that leak, I can't find them in the service manual, What are they? and can I take them out safely to silicone them ? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Abraham:

The three screws of which you speak are caps for the transmission shifter detent balls/springs.

Paper gaskets are used beneath the caps but are often missing. The compressed paper gaskets are still available from CNH.

When you remove the caps, pull out the springs and balls with a magnet. Replace the balls if there is evidence of wear. Replace the springs as well if there is any evidence of the transmission jumping out of gear under an overhauling load.

those are your shifter detents, there should be a gasket on them, but you should have no trouble cleaning them up and using silicone or just some gasket sealer.

Thanks a million, you guys are great, . the transmission seems to shift ok but I think I will replace the balls and springs anyway, couldn't be that much.
Thanks again for such a fast response, I really like YT and this forum.

The balls and springs do not cost much. I've replaced all of them in both of my 5 speeds. The new springs were noticeably longer than the 50+ year old springs.

While you are there, why not remove that loose carriage bolt (in the picture); clean up the threads, add a little anti-seize and tighten it back up. You will thank yourself later, when you try to adjust your steering.
As far as that goes; when you have time; why not go over all the steering linkage, as I suspect there will be more issues.
BTW I would suspect there is water in your transmission by the look of those screws.
Just my $0.02 worth.
