My '57 800 Ford tractor is missing and doesn't have any power. I have checked the compression of the cylindersall have compression of120lbs excet one cylinder has 112lbs. the valves are all seated good. Has any one got any ideas how I can fix it?

Constant miss or one that comes and goes?

if constant.. pull and repalce each plug wire and find the one that makes the least difference.. focus ont heat cyl.

Bad plugs with a cracked insulator can cause this.

fouled plugs can cause this.

Old brittle spark plug wires.. especially the carbon core style can cause this.

carbon tracked distribuitor caps can cause this... or ones with broken contacts on the inside.

loose rotor can cause this.

bad cam that the points rubbing block rides on can cause this ( one bad lobe.. ).. or bad bushings..

Weak ignition switch or frayed wires or bad electrical connections can cause poor running in general.

post back some details.

Larry, souNdguy as usual has given good advice. But the reason i'm posting a reply is because of the title used on your topic. My long departed Grandad was a riot to be around. He was the kind of fellow who would keep you amused at his expense at all times. He lived way out in the country and kept all kinds of livestock and fowl on his farm.Well 50 to 60 years ago many people did not have quite as much as some so they resorted sometimes to stealing a few chickens and maybe raiding someones smokehouse at times to eat.Well grandad had lost a few chickens and a ham or two and was a little upset about it to say the least. So one morning he and my dad who was a teenager at the time loaded a couple of calves on grandads Ford one ton truck and headed out to the livestock sale that day.Dad said grandad was still upset about the chickens and the smoked hams being stolen and thats all he was talking about that morning. After traveling a ways dad said the truck began to run rough and almost quit running on a hill or two.So finally they came to a small combination General Store and Service Station and grandad pulled the truck up in front of the gas pump.He was afraid to turn the ignition off in case it would not restart. The attendant came out and my grandad advised him of the problem. So the guy grabbed the latch on the gullwing hood and opened it up.He then stuck his head in and looked it over for few seconds. He then raised up and took a step backwards and said this to my grandad.Well its no wonder sir, your engine is missing. My grandad without batting an eye said,Well i wonder who the heck took that!
