'53 Jubilee. I cannot get the idle speed down to the recommended 450-500 rpm. When purchased about the lowest it would idle was 800rpm.
Since then I rebuilt the carb and replaced a cracked intake/exhaust manifold with a new one. Also completely replaced the ignition system. This helped lower to where it will idle smooth at 600rpm. I'm pretty sure there are no vacuum leaks anymore.
When I try to lower any more than 600rpm the motor starts lugging and I can hear the journals banging and knocking. Bring it back up and it's fine.
There are some noisy valves tappets than I'm going to adjust tomorrow. Other than that there isn't much I can do is there.
Is this problem, maybe, because it's like myself a bit old and tired after 60 years ?. Oil pressure is good and only appears to be blowing a tiny bit of oil once in a while on acceleration.
One other thing is that the old vane type hydro pump has been replaced with piston type. Could the gearing be different to give a false RPM reading?
Easy enough to check I guess.
