Another electrical problem

I have a problem similar to little bill from yesterday's postings. My 1955 860 with 12 volt conversion will not hold a charge for more than a few days. Has new battery, and after charging turns over fast and starts. The ammeter does not work, and is rusted and corroded. Could this defective meter be causing a current draw which would run down the battery? I am far from an electrical expert, but monitor this site often, and have received tons of good info.

My experience says that it usually the alternator when the battery goes dead in a few days. I would get the alternator to a starter/alternator shop and replace that old ammeter with a good voltmeter so I could keep an eye on the alternator.

remove the positive cable and hook a test light between the battery and the positve cable, if the light lights you have some thing drawing current and you will need to isolate each circuit and determine where the draw is coming from.
