I have a ford dexta tractor with a 3 cyl. diesel engine in it. I now believe the pump is working. I'm not positive. I took the injectors out and hooked them to the pump, they look to be spraying good. Still will not start. I was wondering if the firing order of the pump is critical, I think it might be wrong if that is possible. If it is could someone PLEASE tell me how to correct it. I have the gear inspection plate off, but do not see any timing marks of any kind on it. Thank you, Hank

One thing you need to get your diesel engine to start is enough compression in order to generate enough heat in the combustion chamber to ignite diesel fuel. About 350 lbs.psi with the engine temp at least 60 degrees. You say the engine was locked up but is now free. Perhaps the rings are stuck in the piston groove or the rings are devoid of lubrication. I would try to verify adequate compression and or cranking speed before chasing a timing problem.

If it ran before It has to be in time. Did you replace the fuel filters and check the fuel outlet on the tank. Does the Dexta use an automotive type of fuel pump. or s it just gravity.

If you havent had the injector pump off of your dexta it would be almost impossible for it to be out of time, as the pump is a direct gear drive. You have incountered the problem that plagues Perkins engines with the Simms injector pump. The main problems I have found on cranking are 1. the manual supply pump is not putting adequate fuel to the injector pump. 2. The engine appears to be cranking over fast enough to start, but is not. Dont spray gasoline or starting fluid in to start engine , for most of the time just a small amount will burst the pistons on a Perkins
