Can anyone tell me what a 5500 ford backhoe is worth? It seems to be in pretty good shape sheet metal is good could use some paint. The front cylinder that operates the bucket looks like it needs a seal. Their asking 7500. Seems abit high to me. What do you think guys? Thanks

Not sure about the 5500, but I picked up a good '69 - 550 last year for less then 6000. I was the third owner and it had not been mis-used or abused. Its a good straight machine and a real work-horse. No welds, cracks, bends or breaks. Steve

$3 - 5000. Torque converters/transmissions were known weaknesses. I had one, good old tractor. Same size hoe as 7500, but had smaller non-turbo engine.

Paint is another, the modern acrylic enamels are great for resistance to grease and fuel stains, retaining their shine and they last forever; unlike enamels and lacquers . Still another is the alternator. No doubt using the original generator keeps the tractor pure, but for thos ... [Read Article]
