I have a 3 cyl Ford 4000 (pump is in the rear axle housing with Live hydralics)...my hydraulics went out so I removed the top cover and pulled the pump and replaced the o-rings on the outlet(thinking it was blown) I reassembled and started the engine and realized the pump isnt turning,so my question is has the shaft got protection (shear pin) on it or have I broke the pto shaft or what? Im assuming the shaft that turns the Pump is geared to the side of the PTO shaft..my manual isnt detailed enough to help me maybe you guys can..thanks

Tony, There is no shear protection in the 3 cyl 4000 hydraulic pump drive train. The weakest link is the hydraulic pump shaft itself. The PTO and pump are driven from a splined sider on the back of the clutch pressure plate, a tubular input shaft, a gearset at the front of the transmission and live shaft running back to the lower rear axle housing where the PTO clutch and pump drive gear are located. Of course with no hydraulics, you can't pressure up the PTO clutch to see if it's working. If the pump drive shaft is not broken, work you way forward from there. Good luck and let us know what you find
