I am going to look at a 3000 tomorrow. I understand how to decode the country of manufacture. Any reason to stay away from the British built unit? Parts available? Inherent problems? thanks,
ray

There are hoards of Basildon built (B Prefix) thousand series tractors in North America. The key is not where the tractor was built, but what market it was built for. There are only minor differences between a Basildon and Romeo 3000 if the Basildon 3000 was built to ship here. If it was built for European comsumption, it gets sticky.

Hi Ray,

I’m not sure about the similarities and differences between the English version verses the US version Ford 3000 but when I was looking diligently for a Ford 2000 or 3000 I did a lot of research and looked at a lot of 2000’s and 3000’s, most of which needed overhauling and were high priced.

There is some good information on this subject in the archives on this forum. Also, I believe the first letter in the serial number for the English Fords starts with a “B” and the first letter for the US version starts with a “C”.

I have herd some comments that some of the parts are not interchangeable but that is merely hearsay. I also believe that many of the English Fords have the headlights in the lower front of the grill. I would think that the English Ford 3000 is as good a machine as the US built ones. I believe all of the post 1965 Ford tractor engines were built at a factory in England. HTH. Rick H. Ga.
