Has anyone out there put in the big differrential ring gear on ford 601? Do I need to replace pinion etc. when I put in new ring gear? I can see through the cover that the ring gear has a couple of teeth knocked off. How big of job for ring only, or for ring and pinion? My book shows special tools needed for pinion assembly? Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim; I rebuilt the rear end on my 601 recently. If the machine was new it would be wise to replace gears as a matched set, however at fourty plus years old I would get a ring gear from a salvage yard. The ring gear is riveted to the carrier. Bolts are available for the replacement gear. HTH
