Removing a ford factory loader with a front pump.
Will the drive shaft from the pump come out of the unit that is hooked to the front of the crankshaft or do you unbolt the coupling behind the pump? And if there is any other hints on removing the loader would be appreciated.
Thanks for any responses.

It can be removed (carefully) without the use of a chain hoist or something to suspend it from. You must weight the bucket (gravel, dirt, etc.) and secure it in the upright position (with a chain). Make sure you're on a good level surface (and it's where you want to loader to be stored.) You must disconnect the pump and pull the shaft out far enough to clear the pulley (disabling the pump). Using a jack, lift up on each of the back legs enough to remove the rear pins (or bolts) under the rear axle mounts). Place a block or jackstand under each leg. Next, place a hydraulic jack underneath the lowest point of the loader (bottom point of front frame where drain plug is). Raise front enough to remove two front pins. Then lower front enough for front bracket to clear loader frame mounts as you slowly back the tractor out a foot. (At this point, I find it helpful to position two small blocks behind front tires to raise tractor front end as I back out as sometimes the loader front doesn't drop as much as I'd like.) Once the front mounting plate of the tractor is clear of the loader, slowly raise the jack which will raise the entire loader (back legs and all). Carefully back out tractor the rest of the way. You will need various sizes of blocks (6x6s, 4x4s to do this) but I have found this to be a fairly simple way of removing/installing my Ford 703 loader. The first time I installed it, we used an engine hoist and cracked the proofmeter glass. I prefer the slow, controlled method of jacking underneath rather than suspending from above. But of course, be careful and SAFE! I have pictures of this procedure also.

Hi Dennis,

I know you weren't trying to slip in a for sale ad here, but I couldn't help wondering if you were getting rid of the loader?

The shaft should have splines which will just pull out of the adapter. Hang the loader on something very substantial, (a swing set will not work) and be careful.

Explain to all of us just exactly how you know for sure a swingset won't handle a loader's weight. Seems as if there's a story there..... ..... ..
