I am looking at a 555 hoe that is going up for sell by sealed bid. It all works, rubber is trash, showing 4600 hrs. I just want it to use around the place. Any input on value or pros and cons of this hoe greatly apprecciated! Thanks to any and all!

Depending on the year and options you can look up what they are going for at auction.

Weak and fair backhoes are going for 4-6000, it also depends on the location. Equipment seems to be going cheaper in the northern states.

Since it was used by your outfit, ask the maintenence guys about it.They should know it's condition.Probably have a bunch of spare parts etc for it in a corner somewhere.Who knows,ya might get lucky!!

If it is a plain 555, not an A, B, C, D, or E, then it is at least 20 years old. Its value is based more on condition than anything else, and we can't see it from here. Repairs to the clutch packs and torque converter are labor intensive and expensive, as are hydraulic components. Know what you are buying beforehand, not after the fact.

Thanks for the input. I believe the hoe is in good working order except for 1 front kingpin and 1 pin on the back bucket is sloppy. It is being sold by the utility I work for (bought new by them) but hasn't been used much at all for 3-4 years. Please give me an idea of a price range, everyone thinks it will go cheap($2000 or so) is it worth that or more. I am going to bid but can't find any values anywhere! Thanks again!
