Hi,

I am the (maybe) proud owner of a new to me Ford 860. It had a leak in the fuel shutoff valve. All disassembled now, and the valve is not repairable... And hints on where I might find either a replacement valve, or ideas on how to install a different valve, and the source for such...

Thanks in advanc,

R. Stelle

Guys, The brass rivet will pry out with a knife blade worked down between the rivit head and the base of the valve. Work it on both sides a little bit and it comes right out. My problem is finding an O ring the correct size for the valve itself. ray

Everywhere I look for parts, they seem to want 50 bucks for the gas tank valve. I took mine off today and drilled out the rivet and installed a new O-ring. I replaced the rivet with a pop rivet and it appears to be a good fix. I'll know more once I install it and add fuel.

It amazes me that those rinky dink valves bring 50 bucks.

Thanks to you and to all the other people who replied to my question... a very friendly group.

I have found one locally... well about 60 miles from here... $33... Will pick it up today.

Some of the new replacement valves (which I think were in the $30 range) had a problem with O rings going bad in storage. There were some guys here who found a way to drill out the pin that keeps the valve from being screwed out of the housing completely, and they were able to replace the O ring with a quality one. If you check the archives you may find out more. I'm pretty sure all the original type valves are rebuildable in this fashion.

Another thing to look for, mine was leaking and I realised that it was opened up too far.I turned it in and backed it out just enough to flow and stopped the leak. Also, there is an o-ring between the cut off and the tank that seals it and is also renewable as it can be purchased seperately from the shut off.

You can find that part right here in the tractor parts to the top left of this web page. The part number for it is 311292wor.Look up Ford parts and do a search on 800 series or just type in 800.
