Hey y'all,
I have a buddy that has an old Ford tractor. The serial numbers are as follows: 850
43501
Anyway, just wanted to know exactly what year and model it was and where to get some expert advice on r&r and maintenance, it seem as though the clutch is slipping and the hydraulic pump needs a rebuild. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dan

Dan, Your buddy has a 1955 Ford model 800 tractor. The 850 is the series and tells us that it has the 172 cu in engine, 5 speed transmission and non live PTO. About a 45 HP tractor and are a great machine. You have already found the best resource around for expert advice. There are some guys here that are really experts on the older Ford tractors. My advice is to do a little more searching around this site, buy an owners manual and a repair manual for the tractor. The guys here will fine tune your questions about specific problems and have the old 800 running like it did when it was new. Enjoy, Dan J

I have owned an 850 for about 5 years, and I love it. I would still like to take the time to give it a proper paint job, but it is always in use, so never time!

The only big money I have spent so far was on the hydraulic pump. The older models had the vane pump, which are very expensive to repair ($400?). Cheaper option is to get a used piston pump & manifold from a newer model, then the repair kits are more like $50. The head gasket just blew, although it still started and ran on two cylinders. That one cost $50 in gaskets.
