Help With NAA

I got a great deal on an NAA from a neighbor that was moving and short on time. I have a 2N but this NAA is a different breed.

First, where is the serial number located?

Second, he didn't have a battery in it and told me it was 12 volt. I know it doesn't have an alternator but do recall there are some 12 volt generators from this era. I put a 6 volt battery from the 2N in just to try it. However, it showed no charge. With the 12V it showed 15Amps.
The generator has 3 wires on it - 2 on the side and one on the back.

I am thoroughly confused and feel dumb. Help is appreciated.

As John said, the NAA was built as a 6 volt positive ground system with a generator. The 12 volt generator you've heard about originally came on the diesel versions of the x01 series (Workmaster/Powermaster). I'm sorry, I don't know how to tell the difference between a 6V and a 12V generator by looking at them.

Here's a website that will give you some assistance in finding the serial number. As John said the first few thousand had the serial number on the front left side of the block, then all the others were back by the starter.

Ron,The serial number should be on the bell housing right by the starter. If it's an early jubilee instead of an NAA the serial number is on th e right side of the block. As far as the 12 volt system, some one has converted it. As the Naa's and Jubilee's were 6 volt systems. If you still have trouble finding the serial number on the left side of your computer screen You'll see a research and info click on serial numbers and it should tell you where it's located. John
