pto shaft moves in and out and wont stay in gear got any ideas as to what to look for thanks

Ben is right. If you have play, drain the fluid and remove the four bolts in the end of the shaft. This should allow you to easily slide the shaft right out the rear of the tractor. Had the same problem on my 860. I had to replace the shaft. It cost me $120.00. Of course my shaft was twisted to.

check the pto from the rear end, there is a collar that is a press fit around the pto shaft. you can pull and push the shaft with the tractor motor off and see if the collar has worked its way back. the collar holds the pto shaft and bearing in the proper place. hope this helps.
