I am looking for specifications on a Ford 2600. A friend has offered one of these to me, and I know little about it. He says it is a gas engine. Other than that, he knows little. Can anyone provide a picture of one, or info?

Thanks

Dave

I have a 1976 2600 diesel. I replaced an 8n with
this unit and have never looked back. I run a 7'
flail mower, 5' brush hog, 2-16 plow and a 7 1/2'
3pt disk all with ease. The front end is a bit
light, but I am putting a 730 industrial loader
on in a few weeks. I hope the tractor can handle
it OK. The gas and diesel are both around 32-35 HP. If this is the size tractor your looking for
I think this model is a pretty good choice. If
you decide to pass on it let me know, I may be
interested. Good luck!

Lousy steering and brakes. Otherwise, OK.

One of my reference book says 3-cylinder motor has 158 cubic inches (about 50% bigger than an 8N)

This engine was designed as a diesel and converted to spark ignition (gas) for the U.S. market; hence the motor should be rugged and long-lived. Book says 34 hp., weight 3,600 (gas), about 3,800 (diesel); again, 50% more than an 8N. These tractors were built in England, I believe, along with many other mid-size Fords. Built from 1976-81. These are good tractors that are seldom offered for sale. Good ones must go to relatives, neighbors and friends. You are fortunate. Mike

David The 2600 is a great smaller general purpose tractor. Made from around '76 to '82. I think they are rated at 32 hp. I have an 78 diesel and have had the best of luck with it. Know of a gas version close by and the guy that owns it won't part with it. The brakes must be kept in good adjustment in order to be effective. The front ends are a little light for any amount of serious loader work. The 1/2" steering rods are expensive and not up to abusive loader work. The motors and trans are very good. The 2 stage clutch is not the strongest but has never caused me any trouble. I can run a 7' haybine, 5 foot bush hog and a 6' snowblower with no trouble. I think the 2600's weight is in the 3500 lb range. Hope this is the type of info you are looking for. I would recomend a 2600 to any one who wanted a smaller unit. Good luck Roy
