Yes, there were Dexta 2000s made with a 4 speed, single stage clutch. I had one last fall.

Assuming you don't have a two stage clutch, the easiest fix to your problem is to use an over-running coupler. This is about the size of your fist and is placed in the PTO driveline. It allows the tractor to power the mower but doesn't let the the mower to push the tractor.

I have them in stock, $52 includes shipping. Or you can buy one from any farm store.

Could you put the coupler in the driveline of the brush hog with out major modifycatinons?- I have the same problem with my 950.

It's no problem to put in. Just unhook the pto shaft from the tractor pto, put the coupler on the pto ,hook pto shaft back up to the coupler. Takes 2 minutes, and saves alot of headaches. When you see one you'll understand what it is. No tools or fabrication of any thing to put it in the pto shaft.

Except a hammer & pin punch to set the rollpin, a screwdriver to remove & install the plug to access the rollpin & a chopsaw to shorten your cutter's pto shaft if necessary. But they are definitely a worthwhile investment for transmission-driven PTO's.

I'm missing something here. I've been using them for years and never had one that is'nt just a short stump adapter that mounts on the tractor shaft and then the pto long shaft slips back up on it like it would on the regular tractor pto stub.

Yeah, I was busting on you a little. The ones common here in the Northeast mount over the tractor's PTO shaft with a rollpin through the cross-hole. The assembly adds about 6" to the effective length of the tractor's PTO shaft, which may or may not cause the implement shaft to be too long. This isn't a crisis with the metric tube shafts, but can be a can of worms with an old fashioned US built tube & sleeve shaft, especially when someone in Parts or Sales says it will "go right on, no problem" I understand there are different types of ORC's but that is my experience.

That is why I love this board - Learn something new all the time.

Just one more question:
What was the difference in the "Dexta" 2000, and the 1973 model 2000 gas my neighbor has. It doesn't have 2 stage, but PTO doesn't push tractor either, and he has no external clutch on the PTO shaft. When clutch is depressed, tractor stops driving the bushhog, and the bushhog can spin without pushing the tractor forward.

Thanks for the info,
Tommy D...
