I was told by a local tractor mechanic/rebuilder to put in my 8n for the hydrolic system, half 80/90 wt. oil and half regular tractor oil. Is this guy nuts or is mixing this stuff ok?

I don't think he's crazy. It's just what he is used to using. It really depends on where you live. If you live where the climate is warm all year, the 80/90 oil is fine by itself. If you live where it gets cold in winter, as I do, you can use 80/90 in summer and New Holland 134 hydraulic oil in winter. Personally, I use the 134 year round. Try reposting this question on the N board. There's a link at the top of the Ford board page.

Today's Featured Article - A Farmall Story - by Ed Meadors. The year was 1978. We needed a TRACTOR; not a riding mower or tractor wannabe, but a real TRACTOR. The answer to our needs materialized in the form of a '44 Farmall A, complete with cultivators, discs, single plow, a 5ft.Woods belly mower and one, mounted spare 9.00x24 rear wheel. ...
